You are in business to succeed. Listed below are some things someone starting or running a business may consider. Where internal skills are lacking external help should be sought and it is not always expensive. Your accountant can be your friend & mentor.
GOOD SKILLS & PLANNING ARE A PRE-REQUISITE TO SUCCESS
Most businesses fail due to:
Lack of business skills - without the appropriate skills you may not be 'PLANNING', 'MONITORING', 'CONTROLLING' or 'MARKETING' your business effectively.
Businesses running out of cash - some basic skills like management accounts or cash-flows can help you avoid this
Not enough research carried out about your proposed business before starting - unless it is a franchise or you are duplicating a known business type or model you should carry out adequate market research and draw up a business plan to ensure your proposed business is going to be viable and profitable. A bad product, a poor location, not enough or appropriate marketing, poor budgeting, etc can lead to failure.
Using a good firm of Accountants can increase your chances of success by a large extent.
QUALITIES OF A GREAT ENTREPRENEUR
MANAGING / RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS
Visualise & actualize; have a mission
Have aims, goals, targets. Do you want to be best? Do you have a documented plan of action - maybe even a full BUSINESS PLAN?
Assess your competitive advantage - is it a unique product or service or skill or way of offering the product or service? Have you apportioned your time effectively for the 4 main roles:
or employed the right staff if your business is large enough?
Time apportionment and delegation are important; do not ignore the Entrepreneur or Manager roles by being the Technician / Worker.
Are you adhering to your MARKETING PLAN OF ACTION effectively? Do you have a Marketing Plan Budget - we can help.
Are you reviewing progress in terms of sales and finances/ cash-flow? Do you have good external expertise like a good Accountant or Solicitor?
